When I was hosting my son’s 2 year birthday I decided to celebrate him with different finger foods and a huge charcuterie board instead of the usual supper BBQ meals. I wanted something were we could sit around the table and snack all day long while the kids played. It doesn’t require strict rules, but a good balance is key. In this blog post I will show you how I build my charcuterie board step by step.

Building the Perfect Board

- Start with small bowls for dips, spreads, mini cucumbers, and olives. I love to use the cheese spread from Costco it’s slightly spicy but you can easily make your own too.

- Place cheeses first, for example: brie cheese, baby-bell, gouda, cheddar, havarti, then fill in with meats and sides.
- Add cured meats, fold or roll for visual appeal salami, prosciutto, deli meats, smoked salmon.

- Use lots of vegetables and fruits. Such as grapes, strawberries, raspberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, apple slices, dried fruits can be used as well like apricots or figs.
- Include crunchy bases, these act as a foundation crackers, nuts, breadsticks, or sliced baguettes. I would recommend to add it last as you fill the gapes.
- Don’t forget to add the extras these elevate the board, honey or jam especially for the brie cheese.
When to Serve It: A charcuterie board fits almost any occasion
- Appetizer for dinner parties
- Holiday gatherings
- Date nights at home
- Casual snacking with friends
The beauty of a charcuterie board is its flexibility, you can make it as simple or as elegant as you like. Whether you’re using everyday favorites, the goal is to create a spread that looks inviting and tastes amazing.
