Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground pork
  • 1 Medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 1 tsp Smoked paprika
  • 1 Can Cream of mushrooms
  • 1 Can Tomato marinara
  • 12 Lasagna sheets, cooked halfways through
  • Gouda cheese, shredded
  • 1 Medium Red bell pepper

Equipment

  • 1 Baking pan
  • 1 Frying pan

Method

Prepare the Meat Sauce:
  1. In a large skillet or frying pan, cook the ground pork until browned. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and smoked paprika. About 1 teaspoon of each or according to taste.
  2. Saute the onions and red bell pepper until soft and fragrant.
  3. Stir in the tomato spaghetti sauce/marinara and let it simmer gently to develop deep, rich flavors.
Make the Cream of Mushroom Mixture:
  1. In a bowl mix about 2 1/2 cups of shredded gouda cheese with 1 can of cream of mushrooms and set aside.
Cook the Lasagna Sheets:
  1. In a large salted pot cook 12 sheets of lasagna for only a few minutes, not until they are cooked through. The lasagna sheets should be very dante as it will finish cooking later on in the oven.
Layer the Lasagna:
  1. In a baking dish, start with a thin layer of meat sauce, this will prevent sticking. Add lasagna sheets, followed by more meat sauce. Again add another layer of lasagna sheets followed by a layer of cream of mushroom mixture. Repeat the layers until the dish is full, finishing with meat sauce and cream of mushroom mixture and a generous topping of cheese.
  2. Bake in a preheated oven at 400F for about 40-45 minutes covered, or until the top is golden and bubbling. Let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing - this helps the layers set beautifully.
